Should you share your art on social media?
Believe it or not, that is a question many artists ask themselves.
If you’re a beginner artist, you may feel scared about sharing your work because you’re still learning and feel uncomfortable. If you’re more experienced and established as an artist, perhaps you don’t feel the need.
Either way, it’s a personal decision. So let’s think about it.
Ask yourself what your reasons are for sharing your art…
Are you selling your art?
Are you selling tools that help other artists (like I do)?
Would displaying your art on social media help your business stay relevant?
Can sharing your art be helpful to your consumer base?
If you answered YES to any of those questions then absolutely…you should share away.
If you’re more of an art hobbyist, you may not feel it necessary, but I’m here to disagree.
Let me explain…
Even if you’re a beginner, or doing art more as a hobby – sharing your art can still be beneficial, if for nothing else it helps you stay motivated to keep creating.
Think about it, you’re working on an art piece that you know you will eventually share and that people will see. You’ll want it to look as good as possible. This means you’ll take your time to create something that you put your heart and soul into. It doesn’t matter if your art is not yet quite up to your (or their) standards. What matters is, you’re creating and the more you create art, the better you’ll become.
Sharing your art on social media not only documents your progress as an artist – so you can see how much better you have become with practice – it also shows others that, over time, they too can become better artists. Sharing your art on social media also helps you build a supportive community.
So don’t be afraid to put your art out there. Use your social media as if it’s your own art gallery, giving others the opportunity to enjoy your work. It’ll inspire you…and them.
Until next time…
