I mentioned before that I’ve been considering branching out a little with Sofydoll Designs. In the process, I’ve purchased different courses, new software, and most recently…a new computer.
The MacBook Pro.
I didn’t come up that far, since I had been using a MacBook Air 13″ M1 chip that I bought ‘open box’ at Best Buy in 2021. Which honestly, it has worked very well for me. However, I wanted something that could handle some of the new ventures I’m considering; something a little faster and more efficient. Since my MacBook Air is still in great condition, instead of trading it in, I decided to keep it and pass it on to my daughter.
So what do I think about the MacBook Pro? So far, I love it.
Having been on the market for a new MacBook for a while, I went back and forth between getting the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. I also grappled with getting a 14″ or 16″ (as opposed to a 13″ that I currently had). Once I got to the store, I then spent another 30 minutes fiddling with what they had out on display.
I was tempted to go with the MacBook Pro 14″ but it was a little more money than I had anticipated on spending. Also, it was the M1 chip and I figured if I was going to upgrade, may as well go with the M2 chip. So I stuck with my original choice; the MacBook Pro 13.3″ (8GB ram/512GB) with M2 chip. For me, it was still an upgrade so the deal was made.
Now, we all know Apple products aren’t cheap, so I opted to purchase mine at Best Buy because I have their card and it allows me to pay it within a 12 month period without incurring any interest. I already feel this new laptop is going to help me create work faster and more efficiently so I can expand my business and (hopefully) pay it off faster. It’s an investment that I believe that will pay off.
Once I got home, I had to set everything up. That included updating the OS and then migrating everything over from my old laptop to my new one. Worked like a charm and within an hour or so, my new MacBook was up and running beautifully. I wasn’t sure how I would like the touch bar feature, but now that I’ve played around with it a little, I actually prefer it. All in all, the computer works faster with all my apps. The 13.3″ screen is something I was already used to (and happy with) so no issues there.
While I’ve yet to fully delve into the features of my new MacBook (such as video editing, etc) I already like how much faster it is. I can go in between apps quickly, and overall makes things smoother while I’m working. The battery also seems to last longer.
Now for accessories. My MacBook Air had a case that I purchased from Chic Geeks. It’s a great site offering really lovely (and sturdy) cases that last a long time. In fact, the case actually fits on my MacBook Pro but the bottom covers one of the ports so I opted to order a basic one from Amazon for now, just to have some protection until I find something better.
Whatever you decide when looking for a new MacBook, choose wisely. Don’t be afraid to spend a few extra dollars to get the one you want but at the same time, no need to spend too much for one if it’s more than you actually need. Marketplaces like Best Buy and Amazon usually run deals at one time or another. Also, if the price is cheaper on Amazon (and it’s an official Amazon item) Best Buy will match that price. You just have to show them proof. So good idea to do your homework before you bite the bullet.
There are certainly plenty of (better) reviews out there on the MacBook M2 chip so do a quick Google search when doing your research. Also, you can feel free to ask me any questions in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer.
For now, I’m going to play with my new MacBook and start getting to work!
Until next time…
