Digital art brushes, whether for Procreate, Affinity or Photoshop have become pretty popular these days. Have you ever thought about making your own brushes, specifically Procreate? It’s not only possible, it’s fun too. Procreate is a great digital drawing application that you can use on the iPad and it currently costs about $10 in the app store. If you’re a creator of any sort, and own an iPad, I highly recommend purchasing it.
For my own story, I began making Procreate brushes by chance. I had been in the process of starting my online business in digital products and absolutely loved working in Procreate. Naturally, I wanted brushes specific to my needs…so I played around a bit and found making brushes allowed me to do just that. After making several freebie sets (I have tons available for download in my freebie Insider’s Vault) and getting great response, I eventually made my way into paid brushsets.
Moving forward over a year later, I have managed to curate a collection of brush sets that I feel have really helped me in my own artwork and others as well. I really enjoy making brushes; working with different shapes and textures and seeing what types of brushes I can achieve. My brushsets have now transitioned into kits that offer more than just brushes, but canvas textures, digital journals and more.
If this post has thus far convinced you to start making your own Procreate brushes…I’ve got a great starter kit for you. Now I don’t usually tout my products in blog posts, but since I also try to blog with tips about how you can start your own online digital product shop, I thought in appropriate in this case.
The Procreate BrushMaker Starter Kit includes 40 custom made shapes, 40 custom made seamless textures, a template brushset (which you can use as a base to create your own brushes), canvas textures and even a ‘product listing cover template’ Procreate file so you can use if you decide to start selling your brushes. There’s also a quick PDF guide with an accompanying video to help you get started.
I should tell you that there are other brushmaker kits on the market also worth considering but I’ve priced my kit to be more affordable (roughly about half the cost). This makes it a great kit for those who are considering venturing into Procreate brushes but who aren’t able to invest a lot of money to start. I also generally offer additional discounts in the Sofydoll Shop as well as on my other shops such as Etsy & Design Cuts.
Now, you can certainly make brushes without this kit (or any kit for that matter) using your own shapes and grains. But be careful though, as just googling textures and shapes is sometimes frowned upon as you may not have the license to use them. It’s best to create your own original grains and shapes or use a set that gives you a commercial license (such as my BrushMaker kit). Then you can feel comfortable selling any brushes you make without having to worry if you are infringing on anyone else’s designs.
So if you’re ready to take the plunge into Procreate brush making, don’t delay. My kit has everything you need to get started and I am also available for any questions you may have in the process. Though the Procreate brush market has become a bit saturated (even in the past year or so since I began) there’s still room for more, quality brush makers…maybe it’s time for you to get a piece of that too.
Until then…
